Announcements

Surrette Battery Company Ltd. is pleased to announce an expansion and further upgrades to our manufacturing facility in Springhill, Nova Scotia. This expansion will allow us to increase production and better meet the growing requirements of our customers.

Upon completion, the plant expansion and new equipment upgrades will allow an increase in throughput of 30% or greater. An investment in state-of-the-art air scrubbers as well as a new waste water treatment plant are also under consideration to further update our ISO-registered facilities.

Surrette Battery anticipates the completion of this expansion and all new equipment operating in our production lines by March 31, 2010.

"Village Electrification"

ERDM Solar, a solar module manufacturer in San Andres, Tuxtla, Mexico is our key distributor in this region and was recently awarded a "village electrification" project to provide solar energy systems to Mexican families living without electricity in isolated communities. The demand for these systems is very high as nearly 6.5 Million Mexican people currently live without electrical power.

This video highlights Phase 1 of the project, supplying 30 "island" systems in various remote locations using Rolls L16 S-530 Batteries. As you will see, system setup and transportation to these areas is very challenging and requires significant organization and local assistance.

Phase 2 of this project will grow to 300 systems. The goal is to launch 12,000 off-grid systems in total, providing electrical power to thousands of Mexican families.

Watch the video below to see how renewable energy is making a significant impact in the lives of people living in a remote village in Veracruz, Mexico.
